Sat/Sunday back in DFW

This weekend I headed back up to DFW for the weekend. I got my new camera (yaayyy), celebrated Shaylas birthday at the No Doubt concert, got to see Shea for his birthday tomorrow and picked my first tomatoes! It was a whirlwind 48 hours for sure!! The pictures below are from my nifty new green canon camera, fun stuff!!

The lovely Shayla with her box of cupcake trailer goodies! Oh so yummy!!

Carebear and I during the very hot and sweaty No Doubt show.

I got to see Shea today for a little while. His big 21 is tomorrow, and I really wish I was there to celebrate with him. His super cute girlfriend Marley is also celebrating a birthday this Friday! Yaay!

Our first 2 baby tomatoes. I picked them and they made the trek down to Austin with me!

One of the first cucumbers!

The doggies are getting pretty used to being my wingmen in the car. Over the last 4 days we've spent 9 hours driving, so they know their spots!

Carter rested his head on my chair the whole way to Austin. Occasionally he would swoop in for a kiss, or a wet willy as it may be. I caught him in the act.

First day = Fancy Dress

Well, today was my first day at the ACLU, and I have to say I really think I'm going to love it. There are 3 interns in the policy department, and about 10 in the legal department, so quite a few more than I'm used to running around with! Today was mostly housekeeping and a little bit of training. Because I'm in policy and the Texas legislative session ends on Monday (God and the Governor willing), our supervisors were more than a little frazzled. I think if I didnt come in on Monday they wouldnt notice at all it will probably be that crazy! I also found out that our dress code is apparently business casual Austin style, ie. no cleavage or crack and we'll all be just fine. I was really excited to rock my new dress that mom bought me at the end of the school year, and if I do say so myself it was mighty cute!

After work hours, we had a little mixer in my hood. It was nice to go out with the group to a bar in the area, especially when the boss ladies pick up the tab! After that we still had an hour or so of sunlight, so I decided to take the dogs (yes both of them) for a big walk on the river. Lets just say both of them are passed out right now and havent really moved since we got home. Here they are in a big field by the apartment before we left for our adventure. Overall it was a super successful first day and I really cant wait for Monday, er Tuesday as it may be!

The Austin City Limits

We made it! Kati, Carter and I made the drive down to Austin today and have gotten settled into our apartment. Now, this next part is kinda embarrassing, but anyone whos spent any time with me knows that I cry when I get excited- case i point, I've cried at Cirque Du Soleil, when we got engaged, when Komen first called, at Britney and yes, I did get a little misty eyed when I saw that Austin City Limits sign. I'm just so excited to be spending the summer here! After I dropped off the doggies and got a little settled in, my first order of business was Veggie Heaven for a puff and a blueberry bubble juice. It is seriously one of my favorite places in Austin. For now I'll leave you with just a shot of my juice from this afternoon. I'll be picking up my new camera (yippeee!!) on Satuday, so we'll have better quality files then!!

keys to summer

Today I met with the summer apartment owner to get the keys to summer! I am so so excited to be headed down tomorrow morning. I'm hoping to weasel a new camera out of the hubbs, so hopefully we'll have better quality pictures in the next few posts! Off to pack!

Welcome to my adventure!

As many of you know, I'll be heading south this summer to Austin, Texas. For 10 weeks I will be leaving my hubbs, dogs, family and friends to work with the ACLU public policy division. I'm hoping to take a picture of two every day to update ya'll on my daily adventures, which are sure to include lots of yoga, good food, cupcakes and interesting work. Check back often, and remember the apartment is always open to visitors!!
